Government of Kerala established the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education in the year 1990, located at Thiruvanathapuram is regulated body of higher secondary schools in Kerala. The Pre-Degree courses had to be segregated from university education to bring then under the ambit of authority of the Directorate, this has been done in a phased manners and entire process of de-linking was complete in 2000-2001.
